[DE] "Die Heilig-Geist-Kapelle ist heute eine der Gedenkstätten der Stadt. Sie war einst Teil eines bereits im Mittelalter existierenden Hospitals. Schon 1355 wurde diese, für die damals noch junge Stadt lebenswichtige Einrichtung durch einen Ablass gezielt gefördert. Im Laufe der Jahrhunderte wurde aus dem Hospital eine städtische Stiftung; sie erhielt viele Förderungen. Schließlich galt es als eine der reichsten Einrichtungen dieser Art. Ihre dem Heiligen Geist geweihte Kapelle wurde 1757 erneuert.
Schlecht stand es um die Kapelle im 19. Jahrhundert. Während die Hospitalgebäude abgerissen wurden, diente die Kapelle jahrelang als Militärmagazin, Theater und anderen zweckfremden Nutzungen, bis die Stadt 1913 den Kapellenraum dem Geschichts- & Altertumsverein für das Eifelmuseum überließ.
1928 richtete der Bildhauer Prof. Carl Burger Ausstellungsräume ein. Nach dem Zweiten Weltkrieg machte die Pfarrei St. Clemens die Kapelle zu ihrer Notkirche.
Nach einer grundlegenden Renovierung in den Jahren 1960/61 wurde die Kapelle als Gedenkstätte für die Opfer von Krieg und Gewaltherrschaft neu gestaltet. Seither ist sie ein Ort der Besinnung, des Erinnerns und des Gedenkens. Jedes Jahr am 2. Januar, dem Jahrestag der totalen Zerstörung der Stadt im Zweiten Weltkrieg, wird der Toten des Naziregimes und des Luftkrieges gedacht.
