The anchor has been placed in the ruins of the eastern building which was part of the Rorke Stores until a wind storm in 1999.
There is an interesting story concerning this anchor, described in the memorial on site.
Garfield Forward's tragic death while working at sea in the Spring of 2001 was commemorated by Carbonear Fishermen on July 13th 2001. A Fishermen Flotilla filled the harbour to honour the memory of one of their own.
During the ceremony, a ship's anchor was hooked by the...Dana Denise...July 17th, the anchor was brought ashore and donated..by Sam Slade and the crew of Dana Denise in honour of Garfield T. Forward.
