First Baptist Church traces its heritage back to 1835, when Mt Zion Baptist Church was begun. The present building was begun in 1868 by ten members of Mt Zion and completed in 1870. It has been and still is in use, although a modern facility has been built in Martinsburg in the early 2000's.

It was included in the original Historic District submission in 1978.
