The Flower Mound Heritage Walk is located in the Robertson's Creek Shopping Center, and can be found behind the Starbucks. Today, Waketon is part of Flower Mound, and besides Mr. Wakefield's old house (northwest of here), Waketon Road is just south of here, about the only remnants of what once was. Kirkpatrick Lane, named for the good doctor, goes north from Lewisville before turning west and ending not far from Waketon Road. The sign says:

Dr. David Forest Kirkpatrick

"Like the Lester family, the Kirkpatricks came from Tennessee. The family followed the dream of free land all the way to Waketon in a wagon pulled by oxen after the chaos of the War between the States. David Forrest Kirkpatrick was only eight years old when his family made the arduous journey.

When settlers arrived in Waketon, they realized that their dreams of wide open Texas grassland had come true.

Doctor Kirkpatrick, or "Doctor Kirk" as he was called, spent his life in service of others in Waketon. He occupied the position of town physician for over fifty years. During that time he delivered many of the babies in the area. He was honored in 1935 as Lewisville's "best loved and most outstanding citizen.""
