In rural Newfoundland, it was common for a burial site to be marked by a bare flag stone rather than an expensive monument. Through oral history, family members can recall where certain individuals were buried. For example, mrselyob's grandfather showed me which stone in this cemetery marked his father's grave. The bare stones and wooden crosses make it difficult to determine the number of burials. In such a case, parish records of burials are useful. However, there was an earlier Anglican church in New Harbour and the cemetery for that church (St George's) must also be considered when reviewing church documents.
