The Samuel Ouimet public library is located in the city hall building at 1145 rue de St-Jovite. It is open 47 hours a week and welcomes groups of primary school children.
An ecological park, parc au Fill-de-l'Eau, has been created behind the building, close to the Diable River, and the modern furnishings (benches, picnic tables, etc.) create a pleasant link with the library. Outdoor activities take place here in the summer.
With the addition of services such as newspapers (La Presse, Le Devoir and the Globe and Mail), a significant increase in the number of clients has been noted, with readers spending more time in the library.
The soundproofed computer room offers free Internet access. Four computers are installed with the possibility to print on a shared printer.
The periodicals and newspapers reading room, which offers a wonderful view of the river, provides comfortable armchairs for its clients.
The activities area for the very young is an important place in the library. Fully carpeted, with stepped furnishings, it can accommodate 30 children. The space, bright with the light from its large windows, invites the young to read alone or as part of a group and is the setting for the story hour.
Outside library hours, you can return volumes via the book returns chute located at the back of the library on the parking level. Please place books in a bag before depositing them in the chute.
Membership for a resident is free and $50 per year for a non-resident.
