Elijah Fish, along with Hewett Stockwell, drowned at Enfield Falls on the Connecticut River by the oversetting of a skiff. The brownstone grave marker of Elijah Fish is remarkably well preserved. The 5.5' tall marker has the image of a crowned angel in the lunette and the following inscription:
In Memory of
Mr. Elijah Fish
who was drowned on
Enfield Falls
(Connecticut River)
on the 19th of Oct 1805
in the 23rd year
of his age
Death like an overflowing stream
Sweeps us away our life's dream
An empty tale; a morning flowr
Cut down and withered in an hour
