"The Fishing Lesson", by artist Paul Hymer, shows a Black Bear sow showing how to catch fish to her attentive cub.
The lifesize sculpture is located in Lower Lake, a part of City Park in Hagerstown. Closest access is via the paved trail to the southeast of the Washington County Museum of Fine Arts, the overseer of the piece.
The piece, based on a children's book of the same name by author Amanda Miller, was dedicated in 2014. It's commissioning was a combined effort of the Washington County Museum of Fine Arts, Maryland State Arts Council/Washington County Arts Council and the City of Hagerstown as well as various public and private benefactors.
