Instituted on March 11, 1875, Mariners Lodge No. 53 appears as though it remains in what may by its original Lodge building. Though records state that it was instituted in Bristol, ME, the present community of Round Pond is considered to be part of the town of Bristol. At the time of institution, the lodge had six charter members with 20 more soon initiated, so that by December 31, 1876 the membership stood at 28.
The building in which Lodge No. 53 meets, somewhat Greek Revival in style, rests on a field stone foundation, indicating a construction date of circa 1875 to be not unreasonable. Atop the stone foundation is a layer of large granite blocks, about one foot tall, which support the building. The building appears to be well maintained and in quite good condition.
The lodge meets on the first and third Thursdays of each month, meeting time unknown.
