Copper smelting plant, Ripley MI This area once was once known for copper mining, the mines shut down in the 70's and many of the buildings are slowly crumbling under the heavy winter snows.

Copper smelting plant, Ripley MI. This area once was once known for copper mining, the mines shut down in the 70's and many of the buildings are slowly crumbling under the heavy winter snows. These buildings can be viewed from gravel roads but are fenced off, There are great views from the canal or from the Houghton side of the canal.

"The Quincy Smelter located on the Ripley, MI shoreline, was built in 1898 by the Quincy Mining Company, to smelt and process copper mined from atop Quincy Hill, overlooking the City of Hancock. Franklin Township assumed ownership in 1999." (visit link)
