This Compass Course is the Eagle Scout project of Craig Shiflet in January, 2004. Craig was assisted by Rosendahl Associates. The course provides an opportunity to learn compass and orientation skills and to practice those skills on a compass walk. The Park of the Canals highlights the use of canals to irrigate agricultural fields by the ancient Hohokam peoples and the late nineteenth century settlers in the area. The park consist of upper Sonoran desert areas encompassing the remains of 4500 feet of abandoned canals.
