In March 2015 the newest Very Hungry Caterpillar VW Bug arrived at its home - the Eric Carle Museum Of Picture Book Art. Before arriving in Amherst, the Very Hungry Caterpillar VW Bug drove 4,500 miles and visited 16 book stores in 19 states to promote Very Hungry Caterpillar Day. According to the museum “The Bug will be a great attraction on-site and en route to outreach and afterschool programs."
The VW is painted shades of red in front and green behind in the style of Eric Carle's famous Very Hungry Caterpillar. The VW is parked outside the Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art to allow visitors to have a photo opportunity with the car.
The rear of the car has the inscription:
