"Mugwort to reduce swelling, soaproot bulbs for sharripo manzanita to cure a stomachache: our elders had a vas knowledge of local plants and their use for medicinal, spiritual, artful, and practical purposes. People turned to the land for all they needed.
1Prw Knowledge of plants was passed on from ge ation to generation. Parents taught their children about the seasonal cycles of plant growth, and how to harvest, prepare, an6:' store plants properly. Unlike today's world with its modern conveniences, our people relied on an intimate understanding of the natural world for everyday life."
