The church dates from about 1200 and is GradeI Listed. Large well kept churchyard. In the West area are two graves of previous vicars and their families. Near the wall in this area are two large stone medieval coffins. The Second Viscount Halifax installed four crosses in the churchyard about 1910.
Inscription on the wooden cross grave marker reads-
"Requiescant in peace
JOHN DALTON, PRIEST
VICAR OF HICKLETON 1885 - 1922, DIED AUGUST 24th 1924
MINNA DALTON HIS WIFE DIED MAY 4th 1923.
PAUL DALTON THEIR YOUNGER SON DIED AUGUST 25th 1942."
At the foot of the above grave is one to another vicar and family marked with a stone cross which reads
"PRAY FOR THE SOULS OF
MADELINE JOHNSTON born July 3rd 1881. and her beloved husband
GEORGE EDWARD DALTON JOHNSON B.A. born December 9th 1891.
St. Chads College Durham 1911-1915. Ordained priest March 1917.
Vicar of St. Andrew Walsall 1926-1953. Vicar of St. Wilfred Hickleton 1953-1970.
Married 1916
BOTH OF WHOM DIED MARCH 6th 1970.
"Beloved and loving. In life and in death. They were not divided."
May They Rest In Peace.
