Too steep for bikes. Motorized prohibited.
Oak, chapparel, madrone canopy. Some bay laurel.

The Jones fire ( 202_)
Destroyed the Independence
Handicable trail designed by
M olmstead who died in 2011.
Pbs feature documentary shown inmarch 2023.
Park Type: Day use

Activities:
hiking, fishing (with permits), swimming if one can get to the river The Independence Trail is for handicaple folks. Widened, smoothed trail that would allow a wheelchair or stroller, maybe a walker, or just a cane. Restroom at roadside parking.


Park Fees:
surprisingly none ?at some points. Bridgeport might be the exception. some think it would be better if there were. The Oregon Creek Covered Bridge has been vandalized.


Background:
Old pioneer mining area. Since 1864. Wildflowers in season. Possibility of seeing deer, birds.
