The downtown area of Rapid City has undergone a large revitalization in the last several years. The statues of the presidents are part of that project.
William Jefferson Clinton (born William Jefferson Blythe III; August 19, 1946) is an American politician who was the 42nd President of the United States from 1993 to 2001. Clinton was previously Governor of Arkansas from 1979 to 1981 and 1983 to 1992, and the Arkansas Attorney General from 1977 to 1979. A member of the Democratic Party, ideologically Clinton was a New Democrat, and many of his policies reflected a centrist "Third Way" political philosophy.
Here are some thoughts from the artists:
The artists had a chance to visit with President Clinton, inspiring their concept. After listening to President Clinton speak during Hillary’s campaign in Aberdeen, South Dakota, we were taken by his charismatic speaking abilities. He has a great ability to connect with all sorts of people, whether you agree with his politics or not. We were impressed also with the role he is playing as an elder statesman. The concept of Clinton giving a public speech was a given, and we were able to take our own photos of him. That was a first for the city of project residence project, and it gives us an accurate 360° perspective from which to work.
