The carving, in stone, is of the logo of the Lewes Building Society with a 1930 version of the logo here.

The outer part of the carving is in the form of a belt. The buckle is along the bottom and the excessive free end of the belt is wrapped around itself. The wording "Lewes Building Society" is carved along the top part of the belt. In the centre is a carving of a house with trees, a front gate and fence. Beneath the logo is the wording "Established 1870".
