This white plaque, erected by Lewes Borough Council, is attached to a wall adjacent to the archway that is "the only surviving part of the Greyfriars Franciscan Friary". It was re-erected here "in the middle of the 19th century".

The plaque, attached to the adjacent brick wall, reads:
The only surviving part of the
Greyfriars Franciscan Friary
once by the junction of Friars Walk
and the High Street. Built in 1224,
demolished as part of the dissolution
in 1538, then re-erected here
in the middle of
the 19th century.
The arch is Grade II listed with the entry at the Historic England website advising:
Archway to Churchyard of All Saints' (formerly listed as Archway leading to the garden of Lewes GV House) II Archway to former house of Greyfrairs, moved at uncertain date from site of former station. C15. Flint with stone quoins and moulded coping. Moulded two-centred arch with shields in spandrels and hoodmould over.
