The Martin Luther King Promenade has several of his quotes etched in the pavement. The Promenade is adjacent to the San Diego Convention Center and San Diego's famous Gaslamp District.
This quote reads:

"So the question is not whether we will be extremists, but what kind of extremists we will be. Will we be extremists for hate or for love? Will we be extremists for the preservation of injustice or for the extension of justice?"

This website (visit link) shows that this is from Martin Luther King's "LETTER FROM BIRMINGHAM JAIL" from
April 16, 1963. The website provides the full text of the letter.

Martin Luther King Jr. was, of course, one of the key American Civil Rights and anti-war leaders of the 1960s. Read more about him at (visit link)
Civil Right Type: Race (includes U.S. Civil Rights movement)
