The cross is a sign of suffering, struggle and victory.
The monument to Rienk Talstra Eastermar was established in memory of the fellow villager who was killed during the Indonesian National Revolution (
visit link) in the former Dutch East Indies.
Rienk Talstra was born on January 7, 1927 in Eastermar. He died on May 22 1949 Pyoengan near Seroet, which drove an armored car with nine soldiers in a roadside bomb. All occupants were killed. Talstra soldier was buried in 'Tillema Square' Semarang and reburied at the Dutch Honorary field Tjandi, Indonesia.
