Conklin, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Less than a week after Veterans Day, Conklin thanked its veterans with a new memorial. More than 100 people turned out for the dedication of the new Conklin veteran memorial Saturday. The memorial is located in the town's community center park. Robert Page, a veteran who has served in three wars, helped raise $20,000 to build the memorial. Page and other community leaders hope the memorial will honor veterans as well as educate future generations of the Conklin community.
"I've been traveling around Broome County, and there's not another memorial built like this one," Page said. For many others that came out to the dedication, the memorial was personal. Lisa Donovan lost her father during the Vietnam War. "It's such an honor for me. I'm here with my mom and my aunt," Donovan said. "It's such an honor to know that he was a hero and he gave his life for this country and it makes me very proud."
Conklin community leaders said they are still looking to raise more money for the memorial."
