This tomb tells of two unusual deaths at different times. A John Smith was "lost at sea" in 1809 after his son, also John Smith, "accidentally drowned" in 1803.

The full inscription on the tomb reads:

In memory of
John Smith, who was lost at sea,
January 1809.
Elizabeth, his wife
died June 27th 1810 aged 85 years.
Sophia, daughter of the above,
died June 11th 1794 aged 6 years.
John, son of the above accidentally drowned
August 21st 1803 aged 10 years.
Elizabeth, daughter of the above,
died April 23rd 1847 aged 65 years.
