A Bell H1 “Huey”, appears to be hovering just above the ground as it offloads three soldiers. The site honors all veterans of the Vietnam War and highlights the pivotal role of rotary wing aircrews during the Vietnam era.

Brazos Valley Veterans Memorial Website

Titled “HOT LZ,” the monument features a bronze UH-1D Huey helicopter plate with soldiers preparing to drop at a dangerous landing zone. The 5,000-pound structure is reinforced by 18-inch-thick concrete and stands more than 15 feet high. Crafted by local sculptor J. Payne Lara.
