The first Presbyterian church services in Argyle were held in the Guthrie home in 1878. The first church building was constructed in 1881 north of the town and was named Brant-Argyle Presbyterian church. The church became Brant-Argyle United Church in 1925 and was moved to the village in 1952.

The 100th anniversary of those first services is commemorated on the site of the 1881 church with this cairn and plaque and a 5 foot high model of the original church.
