Fire Station 1 covers south Scottsdale, an area including 14 schools, dense urban housing and numerous businesses. The station was designed and constructed in 2011 to more efficiently serve the community. It is located on the edge of a flood control wash so the design had to fit in with the urban park nature of the wash as well as handle possible flooding in the wash and be energy efficient. The architects were WLC Architects, Inc. of Rancho Cucamonga, California. The building covers 10,961 sq. ft. It's design was developed with community input and as a result a community meeting room is included.
