History:
1844 – A Customs and lighthouse were established on the east side of the pier. Federal Department of Public Works dredges the sandbar and then more money was gained and two wooden piers was build. $75,000 would be allocated to complete this job. This pier would be placed where the present east and west piers are now.
1845 – A Customs and lighthouse were established on the east side of the pier. Thomas Harrison first light keeper.
