Thomas Dale Jr. died in an accidental fall from the Springfield Bridge in 1814. His grave is located in Springfield Cemetery.

The first bridge across the Connecticut River was built in 1804 between Bridge Street in Springfield, MA and West Springfield. It was a red, covered, toll bridge that collapsed in June 1814. That explains why today there is no bridge on Bridge Street. Thomas Dale, Jr. accidentally fell from this bridge, apparently, six months after it collapsed on December 26, 1814. He died the next day and is buried in Springfield Cemetery.

His brownstone gravestone contains the image of an urn in the lunette and is inscribed:
