"The Bank of Alameda, established in 1878, occupied the northeast corner of Park Street and Central Avenue until 1888 when the more "commodious" structure was erected and the bank became a national bank. In 1902 a second story was added to the building and a 30-foot extension on Central Avenue was built (See Photo H-8).In 1906 the site was expanded swallowing up a small wooden real estate office. A separate building, #56, was erected here An extensive remodelling in 1975 removed or plastered over much of the neo-classical detailing including a balustraded parapet along both street frontages at the roofline. On the present building, 2 stories and of rectangular plan, the original fenestration can be discerned on both floor levels. The ground floor windows appear to date back to the 1888 building. Although altered, the building is still clearly recognizable and the historical appearance could be restored with relative ease." (visit link)
