Some of the miners became loggers. Others ranchers, both cattle and grain.

Winters are long at 4,990 elevation. A number of barns in the community display painted quilts. (without turnouts)
A hardware store in town has one.
This town has a high school, museum, and community park. My population number is from a sign near the elementary school.
The town has a Rotary club.
