According to The Living New Deal web site,
the historic post office building in Lowville, New York was constructed with federal Treasury Department funds. The building, which was completed in 1940, houses an example of New Deal artwork inside and is still in use today.
In 1939, both the Secretary of the Treasury and the Postmaster General participated in the unveiling of the cornerstone for the building. The contractor was
Samuel Plato (1882-1957), a prominent African-American architect and builder.
