A pit wheel from a coal mine was installed on a small green at the junction of Barton Road and Bosworth Road as a monument during the late 1980s to commemorate the miners.

A plaque nearby reads:
This colliery winding wheel
was erected to mark the closure
of the Leicestershire Coalfield,
and as a tribute to the contribution
made by many people from Barlestone
who worked in the
Coal Mining Industry.
