The Burr Oak House/Masters Hotel is best known for its occupants, Laura Ingalls Wilder and her family when they lived here and managed the hotel in 1876. It was built in 1851 and maintained as a hotel until the early 1900’s when it became a private residence. After 20 years of being vacant, the building was purchased in 1973 and turned into a museum to commemorate the Ingalls family and the time they lived in Burr Oak. The building remains a museum today and is open to the public.
