in Buckland, about a half mile south of the center of town, is the Shelburne Falls Trolley Museum, which has maintenance-of-way vehicles on display, including a hand car where can get personal instructions on operating along a length of track.

The museum is located at the end of a driveway off Ashfield Street. The museum has a trolley that you can ride, a caboose you can climb on, and several maintenance-of-way vehicles. The admission is for the trolley ride - $4 for as many rides you want, plus walking around.

The maintence-of-way vehicles are located near the trolley track. The vehicles I saw out in the open included a hand car and a motorized "Speeder." There was another vehicle in a trailer at the end of the tracks.

One of the activities that this museum provides is personal lessons on operating a hand car (pump car). On the one hand, the hand car is easy to operate - however, it's harder to 'safely' operate a hand car. Then there are the other comments about how they were used on a railroad that makes this well worth the price of admission.

The hand car has a plate with the letters, "C.V.RY." and "21." Thus, this car must have been used on the Central Vermont Railway. I don't know the origin of the speeder.
