The Purple Dog public house has two signs. One hangs from the corner of the building at the junction of Trinity Street and Isaac's Walk whilst the other is attached to the face of the building in Trinity Street. Both have the same picture and wording.
The background to the sign is a pale yellow with a picture of a purple dog with a white chest in a seated position. The signage has the pub's name "The Purple Dog" and a statement "A place of refreshment since 1687".
The building is Grade II listed with the entry at the Historic England website advising:
Built in the C16 but much restored. External character remains though most of the detail is gone. 2 storeys, attics and cellars, the roofs tiled. The upper storey projects on the west and south sides.
