Right of the bridge, 0.3 m., over the Blackstone River is Woonsocket Falls. From this point South Main St. bears uphill through what is known as the Globe section of the city, passing (L) the Woonsocket State Armory and the Globe Congregational Church.
pg 385 Rhode Island, A Guide to the Smallest State 1937
The water during spring flows at a much fiercer rate than today. The falls are in Market Square and impressive never the less. The Woonsocket Falls Dam on the Blackstone River was built in 1960 because of the heavy flooding caused in the area in 1955. The falls were used to power the various mills in the area.
