The building is predominantly made of brick with parts of the first floor made from Portland stone. A band of Portland stone runs the full length of the building's facade between the ground and first floors. The wording "Co-operative Society Ltd" is carved in the stone. In the centre, is a bay window beneath which is the sculpture that has some floral carving each side of it.
The carving itself has a wheatsheaf as its central feature and across it is a scroll with the wording "Labour and wait". To the left, behind the word "Labor" is carved a shovel, or spade. Behind the word "Wait", to the right of the wheatsheaf, is a sickle. The heads of wheat are beautifully carved.
The wording "Labor and Wait" was probably the motto of the Co-operative Society.
