Large zinc monument, capped by a soldier on sentry. The monument, dedicated in 1910 by the GAR Lodge 308 and fellow veteran August Kissel, is a tribute to those from the area who served the Union during the Civil War.
Each of the faces has a dedication plaque listing the units and those who served. The base lists famous battles, along with fitting epitaphs.
A marker remembering Revolutionary War Vets, War of 1812 Vets and Spanish American War vets has also been affixed to the Civil War Monument.
The Civil War battles cited are:
BULL RUN and GETTYSBURG
Dedication marker reads:
ERECTED IN 1910 FOR THE
PEOPLE IN THE TOWN OF THERESA
with the accompanying epitaph:
Legend may fade from the portal,
Keystone and Column may crumble and fall;
They were the builders whose work is immortal
Crowned with the dome that covers us all.
The memories of three women who served the Union are also honoured:
To the memory of three female heroes;
Sina Summers of Hunter Creek, SC
Jeannie Wait of Gettysburg, PA
Jennie Tipton of Gettysburg, PA
Another accompanying epitaph:
"And toiled by day in hunger, heat and cold,
And lay at night wrapped in the chilly fold
of stormy skies, and tempest wild
Without a whispered cheer."
