One of two large zinc monuments erected by the local chapter of the Grand Army of the Republic near the frontal area of Oakwood Cemetery in Redwood. The cemetery is located off Pine Street in Redwood.

August Kissel was born in Germany on 18 June, 1842 and died 28 March, 1923.

Civil War Veteran records indicate he was Private in Company B, 94th New York Infantry from October 8, 1861 to April 25, 1865

The marker, erected by the Grand Army of the Republic, indicates that he served in several major Civil War campaigns:
