"È la cattedrale della Diocesi Bolzano – Bressanone. Essa cela le vestigia di una basilica paleocristiana, una altomedievale e una romanica (1180).
Cento anni dopo si apre il cantiere per una nuova imponente costruzione, compiuta attorno al 1420, sintetizzando l'intervento delle maestranze lombarde con lo stile gotico portato dalle maestranze sveve nell'arco di qualche decennio. Svetta il campanile, alto 65 metri, con una cuspide traforata in pietra arenaria, opera dell'architetto svevo Hans Lutz von Schussenried che la realizzò fra il 1501 e il 1519. All'esterno sono da vedere:
Sul fianco nord: il bel Crocefisso di scuola veronese con una piccola immagine votiva che riporta il simbolo del pellegrino di Santiago de Compostela (conchiglia), la Porticina del Vino con fini ornamenti scultorei, anche detta porta della sposa (da qui entravano le promesse) e presso la quale era concessa la vendita del vino secondo un antico privilegio.
Sul lato ovest: il portale romanico con protiro e leoni stilofori, il rosone (riaperto con la ristrutturazione dopo i bombardamenti del secondo conflitto mondiale), a sinistra della bella porta in bronzo di Defner (Innsbruck) l'affresco attribuito a Friedrich Pacher della Madonna con Bambino (1475).
All'interno: tre navate della stessa altezza (Hallenkirche), il pulpito gotico scolpito da Hans Lutz von Schussenried nell'arenaria, l'altare barocco in marmo policromo (1710-1720) dei veronesi Ranghieri e Allio, il Crocefisso (1420), la cappella barocca delle Grazie aggiunta nel 1745 con gli affreschi di Karl Henrici (1771), sull'altare la venerata statua di Maria lactans di scuola veronese del 1200. Nella cripta situata sotto l'ala maggiore è sepolto l'arciduca Ranieri d'Austria, morto a Bolzano nel 1853 (vice re del Lombardo Veneto dal 1818 al 1848),
Sul sagrato meridionale dell'edificio è ben visibile il bel monumento a Peter Mayr, realizzato su progetto di Georg von Hauberrisser di Monaco. Il Mayr, comandante degli Schützen e sostenitore della ribellione contro il dominio francese, fucilato dagli stessi francesi il 20 febbraio 1810." (

"Cathedral of the Diocese of Bolzano – Bressanone concealing the vestiges of an early Christian, a late Medieval and a Romanesque basilica (1180). After one century the site has opened into a new imposing construction, completed around 1420, synthesizing, over a few decades, the intervention of Lombard mastery with the Gothic style of the Suevian mastery. The bell tower, with an open fretwork spire in sandstone, which stands 65m tall, was built by the Suevian architect, Hans Lutz von Schusseried, between 1501 and 1519. Outside mou can see:
On the North side: the beautiful Crucifix by the Veronese School, with a small votive image bearing the symbol (shell) of the pilgrim of Santiago de Compostela, the Wine Door with fine engravings, also called the bride's door (where promised young women entered), where the sale of wine was permitted through an ancient privilege.
On the Western side: the Romanesque portal with prothyrum and column-bearing lions, the rose window (restored after the bombings of the Second World War), to the left of the beautiful bronze door by Defner (Innsbruck), the fresco of Mother and Child attributed to Friedrich Pacher (1475).
Inside: three naves of the same height (Hallenkirche), the Gothic sandstone pulpit sculpted by Hans Lutz von Schussenried, the baroque altar in polychrome marble (1710-1720) by the Veronese Ranghieri and Allio, the Crucifix (1420), the baroque chapel of the graces added in 1745 with frescoes by Karl Henrici (1771), on the altar, the venerated statue of Maria lactans by Veronese School of 1200. The Archduke Ranieri of Austria (Crown-Prince of the Lombard-Venetian Kingdom from 1818 to 1848), who died in Bolzano in 1853, is buried in the crypt situated below the high altar.
In the churchyard south of the building you can view the beautiful monument to Peter Mayr." (

"Das mächtige gotische Bauwerk (Kathedrale der Diözese Bozen-Brixen) ist der Himmelfahrt Marias gewidmet. Sein Kirchturm weist einen 65 m hohen durchbrochenen Turmhelm aus Sandstein auf. Das Projekt stammt von Burghard Engelberg aus Augsburg, verwirklicht wurde es vom schwäbischen Architekten und Bildhauer Hans Lutz von Schussenried (1501-1519).
Auf der Nordseite ist sehenswert ein großes Kreuzigungsbild an der Turmwand, auf der Maria, Johannes und die heilige Barbara unter dem Kreuz stehen. Links davon ist ein kleineres Wandbild von einem veronesischen Wanderkünstler angefügt, das einen Pilger zeigt, weiters das
Leitacher Törl, wo nach einem alten Gesetz der Verkauf von Wein gestattet war.
An der Westseite: das romanische Portal mit einem Säulenportal, das nach den Bombardierungen des letzten Weltkrieges wiederhergesteltlte Radfenster und das links neben der schönen Bronzetür von Defner (Innsbruck) befindliche Fresko (1475), ein Marienbild, von Friedrich Pacher.
Im Inneren: Hallenkirche mit drei Schiffen, eine spätgotische Kanzel aus grauem Sandstein von Hans Lutz von Schussenried, der barocke Altar aus Marmor (1710-1720) von den Veronesern Ranghieri und Allio, das Kreuz (1420), die barocke Gnadenkapelle mit Fresken von Karl Henrici (1771), der marmorne Hochaltar. In der Krypta ist der Erzherzog Rainer von Österreich , der 1853 in Bozen gestorben ist, begraben.
Auf dem Platz vor dem Dom steht das Peter-Mayr-Denkmal, das nach einem Projekt von Georg von Hauberrisser aus München realisiert worden ist. Mayr, Schützenkommandant und Unterstützer der Rebellion gegen die französische Herrschaft, wurde am 20. Februar 1810 von den Franzosen erschossen." (
