This crumbling mausoleum is disappearing into the encroaching vines and brush that so often plague the sometimes lightly-maintained Oakland Cemetery in Dallas.

We were able to do some digging and we found his death certificate on Ancestry, showing the name of the deceased as Johnathan C. Looper, a widower who was born in NC in 1856, and died 25 February 1934 in Irving (a city near Dallas) of anemia due to stomach cancer. He had worked as a farmer in Irving, but retired from farming in 1925. He was buried at Oakland Cemetery in Dallas on 26 Feb 1934.

Weirdly, there is another modern tombstone for him in Irving's Kit Cemetery, but we have not been able to find any records showing that his body was removed from Oakland and reburied in Irving.
