This high relief carving is on the entrance piers to the former Woolwich Dockyard in south east London. The entrance is on the southern boundary of the former dockyard at Woolwich Church Street.

The carving, in Portland stone, shows an anchor laid on its side. There is some damage as the lower fluke of the anchor is missing. A rope is shown attached to the crown of the anchor that then wraps arond the anchor's shank and terminates over the remaining, upper fluke.
The entrance gateway piers are Grade II listed with the entry at the Historic England website telling us:
Early-mid C19. 2 tall, stout, square stone piers with cornices and chamfered tops. Anchor and rope carved in high relief on friezes. Flat architrave band and recessed panels below. Stepped plinth. Gate jambs project on inner sides and wall abutments on outer sides. At right a length of stuccoed wainfords the south end of Police building (qv). At left 2 more stone piers articulate stuccoed wall linking with heavy classical entrance to former Governor 5 house (qv). Well recessed double door with cornice head and patterned fanlight.
