In Waltham, on the Waltham Common, is this monument celebrating the quincentennial (500th Anniversary) to Christopher Columbus, who went on expeditions west to discover portions of the North and South America continents. The monument is in the southwest corner of the common, within sight of the intersection of Moody Street and Carter Street. It is also south west of the Circle of Remembrance Plaza. The monument is a granite slab with the following on it: " "Donated by Private Funding, Special thanks to: James Simeone, Salvatore Pinzone A Quincentennial Commemorative to Christopher Columbus The European discoverer of the new world in 1492 Commissioned the Admiral of the Ocean Sea An Italian renaissance sailor whose great imagination, Courage and navigational skills led to early discovery Exploration and ultimate estalishment of the Americas."
