The plaque is affixed to a large stone at the main entrance to Hespeler Park. The first Mennonite settlers arrived in Manitoba from what is now Ukraine in 1874, disembarking from a steamer on the Red River at a place about 8 km west of this memorial. They then made their way overland to the vicinity of present-day Niverville where this memorial is located.

The plaque reads:

This Stone Stands...
as a memorial to the thousands
of Mennonite settlers who helped
pioneer this region during the 1870's.
The character, prosperity and
development of the Southeast,
including the town of Niverville, takes
its inspiration from these courageous,
hardworking people of faith.
