This fountain has a plaque dedicated to Robert Stanley Fitch -a veteran who also authored "Estimating Tactical Situations and Composing Field Orders".

The plaque reads:

"Erected in memory of
ROGER STANLEY FITCH
Colonel, United States Army, Retired. Founder and president
15 years of the Monterey History and Art Assn. Ltd.
Commanding officer, Presidio of Monterey, 1928-1930
Fort Ord, 1941-1942. Member of Rough Riders of Spanish
American War.
Monterey History and Art Assn. Ltd. 1958"
