EN: Weil am Rhein Ost is a railway station in the southeast of Weil am Rhein. It lies on the route Weil am Rhein - Lörrach, which is also called the Gartenbahn (garden railway).
The five-kilometer route between Weil am Rhein and Lörrach was built in 1890. The reasons were mainly military strategic nature, since - other than the main routes - it bypassed Swiss territory, so it could also be used for troop and arms shipments in case of war.
The garden railway is operated by the German subsidiary of Swiss Federal Railways as line S5 of the Basel commuter train network since 2003. The station is served twice per hour by regional trains between Weil am Rhein and Steinen. The old station building is no longer used.
DE: Weil am Rhein Ost ist ein Bahnhof im Südosten von Weil am Rhein. Er liegt an der Strecke Weil am Rhein - Lörrach, die auch als Gartenbahn bezeichnet wird.
Die rund fünf Kilometer lange Strecke zwischen Weil am Rhein und Lörrach wurde 1890 erbaut. Die Gründe waren vor allem militärstrategischer Art, da damit damit anders als auf dem Hauptlinien Schweizer Hoheitsgebiet umfahren werden konnte und die Strecke somit im Kriegsfall auch für Truppen- und Waffentransporte verwendbar war.
Die Gartenbahn wird seit 2003 von der deutschen Tochtergesellschaft der Schweizerischen Bundesbahnen als Linie S5 des Basler S-Bahnnetzes betrieben. Die Station wird zweimal pro Stunde von Regionalzügen zwischen Weil am Rhein und Steinen bedient. Das ehemalige Bahnhofsgebäude wird nicht mehr benutzt.
