not where it happened, but who did: Charles E Yeager, an Air Force test pilot for the Lockheed F104, broke the sound barrier at Mach 2 in Oct.4, 1947. He was also the first to succeed in an ejection wearing a pressurized suit (separate incidents)

Chuck Yeager made General before his retirement to Nevada Co.
The plane is shown at the local airport and five plaques detail the history of this American veteran.
He flew qith the 8th AF in Europe in WWII, 64 combat missions and 12.5 aerial strikes in the Starfighter.
