This garden was inspired by "Duke" Yoshimura, a Japanese born resident of San Joaquin county and designed by Nagao Sakurai, a former landscape architect at the Imperial Palace in Japan. It was dedicated in April, 1965.

The park features cherry trees, bamboo and ginkgo trees and a pond with Japanese Koi fish, which can grow up the three feet tall and can live up to 200 years.

In the center is a pavilion that is very popular for weddings in the large Japanese community of San Joaquin county. During weddings, the park is temporarily closed to the public.

Admission to the park is free, but there is a parking fee of $5, collected at the entrance to Micke Grove County Park.

Japan's diverse religions are represented by the use of typical elements. The use of rocks and stones symbolizes Shintoism and the creation of artificial islands is a tribute to Taoism. Buddhism is manifested through the use of lanterns.
