Strangely, the State Parks website does not provide a history for this historic building. There is a mention of it as a site for a Christmas 2016 celebration at (visit link)

A historical marker at the site reads:

"GABRIEL DE LA TORRE ADOBE
Home of Gabriel de la Torre,
public official of the Mexican and
American period. Believed to be
the first Federal Court in Monterey"

This Library of Congress website has additional old photos (visit link)
The building has another plaque which states that it was the "1st Federal Court, 1836".
