The Sargent family zinc headstone is a four sided vertically oriented headstone which has an urn at the top and a sunburst pattern circling all four sides.
At the front of the monument has SARGENT written in raised capital letters near the base.
The right side panel is for Pvt. James E. Sargent who was killed in action during the Civil War at the Battle of Antietam. It has the image of a flag folded over a flagpole and the inscription:

On September 17, 1862, the 15 Regiment Massachusetts Volunteers, comprised of 606 men and commanded by Lieut. Col. John W. Kimball, engaged troops of the brigades of Semmes, Early and Barksdale. Within twenty minutes there were 330 casualties: 75 killed and 255 wounded, 43 dying of wounds.
