"Jun Kaneko / Tropical Sounds / Entry Plaza with Ceramic Sculpture, 2000 / The richness and diversity of Hawaii's natural environment may be captured in many ways. Here, the artist has created an outdoor installation which welcomes visitors with its visual energy. It uses powerful elemental forms to symbolize the ocean, sky, sun, vegetation, and marine life. These elements of the natural environment also play important roles in Hawaiian mythology and suggest ways in which we can find harmony within the environment. / Jun Kaneko was born in Nagoya, Japan in 1942 and now lives in Omaha, Nebraska. He is highly regarded for his use of clay in the creation of large sculptural forms / State of Hawaii Department of Accounting and General Services"
